Description
GERMANY, IMPERIAL (Includes previously separate German States)
15619 S71/84mS Sawback bayonet with scabbard. L91 on ricasso
and WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Co. SOLINGEN on the other side. Bayonet is unit
marked B.12.R.4.235. on the left side and b8. on the right side near the
"quillon". Guaranteed genuine. The blade thickness tapers toward the
tip which Anthony Carter had identified as a sign of a fake but newer research
by Shawn Gibson has debunked that as an error. Blade has been sharpened but is
not ground up and has several nicks in the cutting edge. There are pitted areas
on both side visible in the pictures. Ther is also pitting on the right side of
the pommel. There are hammer marks on the butt of the pommel and a small spot
of file marks on the inside of the mortise slot where it was
"adjusted" from the mushrooming effect. The bayonet mounts and
dismounts smoothly from the rifle. Scabbard remains complete but the fittings
are a little loose. They are in no danger of falling off and the bayonet
inserts completely into the scabbard without being forced. The scabbard is unit
marked 98.R.E.3.118. There are buckles and folds in the scabbard leather and some
crazing. The leather is rigid and the stitching is intact. Both fittings have
rust and staining and the tip has pitting.

18045 S98nA Quillback bayonet with scabbard. SIMSON & CO SUHL FA 05
SAXON Entire bayonet and scabbard were painted silver at some time and was
subsequently cleaned but there are still traces of the pain here and there,
especially on the scbbard leather which also has a
fold and is twisted radially but function is not affected. Blade is
sharpened but not ground as is usually seen.

18698 SAXON S98/02 Sawback bayonet with scabbard.
C.G. HAENEL SUHL AR05 spine mark. Blade is sharpened but not ground. Steel is stained and has a few pitted
areas. The unit mark was roughly ground
off of the crossguard. Scabbard is not shrunk at all but the
fittings are both pitted and the tip has a big dent that does not affect
function.

15117 P1858 Marine Artillery Sword bayonet. According to Skennerton BCB163 Very much like other P1856 type bayonets these can be differentiated by the larger than normal MRID of 21mm (actual measured example was 21.3mm) Originally designated P1858 the nomenclature was changed to the noun nomenclature "MARINE ARTILLERY SWORD BAYONET" Skennerton's description of these is a bit murky but he alludes to the modified pommel without stating what the actual modification was. Blade remains unsharpened and grips are solid and tight.

15867 P1907 bayonet with super rare No.2 MkI DOUBLE SEAM scabbard. The scabbard is like the Australian Lithgow double seam type but the leather is black, the frogstud is almond shaped and the markings differ. The bayonet is WILKINSON but has so many rehab dates stamped all over the ricasso that I can't determine the original production date. The hilt steel, ricasso and scabbard fitting have been painted gloss black. Unit mark on the pommel is ?TN.OTC over 140. The scabbard leather is marked H.G.R.1/15 on one side and a Broad Arrow over a crown over '16 on the other side. The left grip has "AUST" for Australia with the rest worn away so they are obviously replacements. Skennerton notes in British and Commonwealth Bayonets on page 195 that as of 1920 the official list of changes states that "no scabbards of this pattern have been made" and he further expounds that existing examples are probably samples or test runs. There is a small area of popped stitching on the front beginning 20mm from the tip and running 70mm long.

18895 P1856 Yataghan bayonet with MATCHING
scabbard. Scabbard tip is detached and
the throatpiece is just hanging on by a thread. Leather is crazed but solid. Hilt is dark with surface rust staining. Blade remains unsharpened. It has lots of small rust spot stains and
some of these have developed into small individual pitts.
